Villanelle January 2013

When the tide rolls out, so will we
There's not telling who we'll meet
Upon the receding sea

A star fish, crab, an octopus or all three
Caught in tiny holes on the ocean floor
When the tide rolls out, so will we

My little fellow cries out in glee
Greeted by shouts "Whale-Straght ahead'
Upon the receding sea

Stretched out befoe us in its enormatiy
We search shore to sky line
When the tide rolls out, so will we

We traverse wet sand with ease
Shells crunch under our weight
Upon the receding sea

Giggles carry on the cold breeze
To glimpse creatures great and small
When the tide rolls out, so will we
Upon the receding sea

Tanka

Delicate pansy
Amore brutal cold winter
Would not kill, nor wilt
Tenderly wrapped leaves unfurl
Her lips curl a secret smile

Still Life

The steel blue urn sits empty and quiet
Delicate baby breathe tremble and fills around
A dozen red roses in a fragile crystal vase

I search the photograph that captures your free spirit
Long blonde hair blowing in the wind riding without a helmet
Daring to live on the open road

Above an easel holds a self-portrait
A hermit climbs his own rugged path
Only you know where it leads

Resting below a black guitar case with well worn brass locks
Your music silenced
Your gentle voice

Remains in my heart

Pantoum of Silver Linings

With every cup of hope
There is a silver lining
Though it be tarnished and empty
It holds promises of spring

There is a silver lining
Pursed lips sip from a full brim
It holds promises of spring
Unwrap stolen chocolate kisses

Pursed lips sip from a full brim
Breathe in its effervescence
Unwrap stolen chocolate kisses
Cheers to the shiny new year

Breathe in its effervescence
Though it be tarnished and empty
Cheers to the shiny new year
With every cup of hope

Cheers & Lucky Kisses

Every cup of hope
Has a silver lining

Borrow and return it
Tarnished and empty

I will fill it to the brim
Again in spring

Lucky Kiss

Leftover chocolate kisses
Spill out like dice and
Melt on parted lips
On the tip of February's tongue

Pie in the Sky

Pumpkin lined path home
Memories like a warm knife
Slice frosty orange sky

Do Not Disturb

His body begins to stir softly,
Awakened by the inevitable alarm
Each stroke of the bong sounds louder
Until it becomes impossible to ignore

With a sudden jolt
He turns it off and away from her
Falls out of bed
The silence between them restored

Her body melts into the warmth
Left in the memory foam by his body's impression
She falls back to sleep and dreams
For ten blissful minutes more
